[4-4-1-1] Methods of proving character
In cases in which character or a trait of character of a person is an essential element of a charge, claim, or defense, proof may be made by the following three types of character evidence:
(1) Testimony by witnesses who know the person as to their opinion of his character (FRE 405 (a));
(2) Testimony by witnesses who may or may not actually know the person as to his reputation in the community (FRE 405 (a)); or
(3) Testimony or proof as to specific acts (past conduct) by the person that reflect on the particular character trait involved (FRE 405 (b)).
